Sanctuary for Families has just wrapped up our annual holiday gift-giving program for our clients! Thanks to the generosity of friends like you, we received thousands of new toys, books, jewelry and other gifts to give some holiday cheer to more children and adults than ever before.

Thanks so much to all of the volunteers who donated their time and energy as Holiday Helpers and holiday event volunteers, to the Adopt-a-Family donors who helped meet the needs of 116 families, and to all of donors who organized holiday gift drives with friends and colleagues to benefit Sanctuary. We are so grateful for your support! Thank you for helping our clients enjoy this holiday season during a difficult time in their lives.

We know that this incredible holiday support is a continuation of the generosity that you show throughout the entire year. Sanctuary could not continue to grow and maintain our commitment to the highest caliber of services for our clients without your help.

Warm wishes for the holiday season and we hope to see you in the new year!

We Come Home

In mid-December, hundreds of thousands of college students from across the country will conclude their final exams and return home to an unfamiliar New York or New Jersey. For many students, this homecoming will involve the unsettling event of seeing for the first time the damage caused to residences, streets, towns and beaches. However, the start of winter break will also mean that the students have the unique opportunity to contribute a portion of their free time to rebuilding their home states.

We Come Home is a growing, student-led movement that is mobilizing college students from New York and New Jersey to partake in post-Sandy rebuilding efforts during winter vacation. The We Come Home website connects students to organizations in need of volunteers based on location and availability via a single, brief form. These organizations will provide students the training and preparation needed to contribute to the immense cleanup and rebuilding efforts. We Come Home needs the help of students on campuses across the country to build the movement by informing their peers of our mission.

To this end, We Come Home is currently building its college ambassador program. Our ambassadors will be guided by communications materials and online support. Students interested in being a We Come Home leader and schools seeking to connect to the cleanup effort can email us at werecominghome@gmail.com. Further information for students, organizations, and media can be found on our website www.wecomehome.com

NY Cares: Make Wishes Come True!

This is Damon, Community Relations Manager at New York Cares.  Each year, New York Cares partners with hundreds of our Community Partners, including homeless shelters and other deserving nonprofit organizations, to provide holiday gifts for disadvantaged children, teens, families and seniors, many of whom would not otherwise receive gifts during the holidays. To accomplish this, we collect and screen more than 37,500 gift requests and send them to volunteers who purchase, wrap and send the gifts to our partners.

This year, Hurricane Sandy affected us and unfortunately, we have just over 1,100 letters left in house and we need your support!  If you are interested and can answer the gift request of a child, teen, senior or family, please let us know; we want everyone to receive a gift this holiday season.

Registration – Please reply to winter.wishes@newyorkcares.org as no later than Friday, December 14, with how many letters you would like to receive. Gifts should be valued at no more than $40.

Options for receiving letters:
- Pick up – New York Cares, 65 Broadway, 19th Floor, New York, NY 10006
- USPS – We will mail your letters to you
- View digital versions of your letter online

You can request as many or as few letters as you like.

Have a Wonderful Holiday Season!
Damon
