- 2608 Berkeley College students were involved in community service/volunteering/civic engagement activities facilitated by the College during the 2011-2012 academic year
- These 2608 students donated approximately 11,863 volunteer hours to organizations in and for causes important to the communities surrounding all Berkeley College locations.
- During this same period, 161 Berkeley College students were enrolled in Academic Service Learning courses (volunteer hours not tracked).
- The following issue areas were addressed by community service/volunteering/civic engagement activities and service learning experiences during the 2011-2012 academic year: access and success in higher education; animal welfare; crime/criminal justice; disability issues; economic development; environment/sustainability issues; global citizenship; health care; HIV/AIDS; housing/homelessness; hunger; legal aid; poverty; reading/writing; senior/elder services; sexual assault; voting, and; veterans’ resources and support for active duty military and military families.

Brooklyn: Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service with City Year

Martin Luther King Jr. believed that, "everybody can be great, because everybody can serve." On January 21, 2013 City Year will celebrate the life of Dr. King through inspirational service. The mission of City Year’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service is to unite the communities of New York City for a day of transformational service and to help break down the barriers and social injustices around us.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service with Jersey Cares
Jersey Cares Martin Luther King Day of Service (MLK Day of Service) will mobilize 2,000 volunteers in over 50 service projects across 15 New Jersey counties. MLK Day of Service volunteers will honor Dr. King's legacy while displaying their own leadership skills. Volunteers throughout New Jersey will work to embody Dr. King's vision and bring people of all ages and backgrounds together strengthening their communities and bridging social barriers.

Event Details:
- Jersey Cares Martin Luther King Day of Service will be held on Monday, January 21, 2013.
- Projects will take place at sites throughout the state (Atlantic, Bergen, Burlington, Cape May, Camden, Essex, Hudson, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Ocean, Passaic, Somerset, Union counties).
- Projects will take place from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm and are posted online.
- Most volunteer projects are indoors however because of the time of year, please check the Jersey Cares website if there is inclement weather.
- Volunteers should wear clothes they feel comfortable getting dirty.
- Volunteers ages 4+ are welcome to participate at select sites. Some sites have different age limits - please check before registering. Volunteers under the age of 18 must have a youth waiver signed by their parent or guardian in order to participate.

SIGN UP PROCEDURE
Thank you for your participation in the upcoming blood drive. Once you click on the link below you will be taken to the ‘Blood Center of New Jersey’s Members For Life’ page. You will need to enter your email address as well as your full date of birth using the drop down arrow buttons located to the right of “Month”, “Day” and “Year”
To sign up:
- Select the link from below – Hold ‘Ctrl key and click’ to activate link.
- Once on the “Members for Life” page enter your email address.
- Enter your date of birth.
- Click the “Login” button. (If this is not your first time signing up go to step 8)
- On the “Schedule a Donation” page, enter your Name, Blood Type (if you don’t know then select “Don’t know” from the drop down menu. Enter your phone number.
- At the bottom of the page, click the “Save Profile” link. You should get a “Your account has been created successfully” message near the top of the screen.
- Click on the “Continue to Blood Drive” link at the bottom of the page.
- Click on the underlined link of the blood drive.
- Click on any of the available time slots to schedule your appointment for that time.
